Legal Tourism: on Civil Codes and Constitutions beyond the State
Speaker: Professor Jan Smits, Tilburg University
Venue: Institute of European and Comparative Law IECL (Lunch from 1215) and Seminar Room C (meeting at 1245)
There is a growing interest in the emergence of a market for law. This is evident from the recent publication of brochures of the Law Society of England and Wales and of the German Ministry of Justice in which English and German law are respectively 'marketed' as the world's best jurisdictions for commercial parties. Also in other fields of law, there seem to be enhanced possibilities for 'legal tourism'. In this talk, it is discussed how we should consider this development and what are its consequences.
