Love and law - romantic relationships from a comparative perspective
Speaker: Professor Anne Roethel, Bucerius Law School, Hamburg
Venue: Institute of European and Comparative Law Seminar Room D (and IECL foyer for lunch from 12.30)
The ideas of equality and autonomy have fundamentally changed the law of romantic relationships. Today the European legal orders offer diversified legal institutions designed to accommodate intimate and affective relationships. Are these developments to be seen as substantial changes of the role of law in the field of love? And if the answer is yes: has the role of law been strengthened or weakened? Are there common trends within the European legal orders?
