Policing and Democracy Seminar
Venue: St Peter's College
The Policing and Democracy Seminar brings together police practitioners with academics studying the police in an active exchange. Held in the run-up to the election of Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) in the UK, the seminar's sessions will broadly examine policing in democratic systems, and what democratic governance may mean for policing. Presenters will examine issues around legitimacy, accountability, transparency, public participation, autonomy, and neutrality in an interactive forum.
The morning will consist of panel discussions from academic, practitioner and student perspectives broadly examining the relationship between policing and democracy in the UK and internationally. The afternoon will offer a moderated debate and discussion on the topic of the future of policing in England and Wales under elected PCCs.
