Commercial Bar Graduate Law Scholarship Reception
Speaker: Lord Mance and Michael Brindle QC
Venue: Oxford and Cambridge Club, Pall Mall, London
The Commercial Bar Reception at the Oxford and Cambridge Club will launch the Commercial Bar Graduate Law Scholarships Fund. The Faculty hopes to raise funds to support graduate law scholarships for post- graduate law degrees at Oxford (whether research degrees like the D.Phil or taught degrees like the BCL).
The guest of honour and main speaker will be Lord Mance, Michael Brindle QC, who has been helping us with the organisation of this event, and Professor Andrew Burrows will also be saying a few words.
Members of the law faculty and graduate students will be welcome to attend the evening.

A number of years ago £40,000 was raised from silks at the Commercial Bar (led by Michael Crystal QC) to support graduate law scholarships at Oxford. The law faculty has now launched a wider appeal to the Commercial Bar to raise more substantial funds to support graduate law scholarships for post- graduate law degrees at Oxford (whether research degrees like the D.Phil or taught degrees like the BCL).
To launch this initiative, several Oxford alumni from the Bar were invited to a drinks reception at the Oxford and Cambridge Club on Monday 6 March 2006 between 6pm-8pm.
Members of the law faculty and students were present as were the solicitors who are on our Oxford University Law Development Council.
Our guest of honour and main speaker was Lord Mance. Michael Brindle QC, who has been helping us with the organisation of this event, said a few words as did Professor Andrew Burrows.
The guest list was primarily drawn from Oxford alumni who are silks and undertake commercial work.
