Brasenose Lawyers Triumph at Cuppers Mooting Competition
The Grand Final of the University of Oxford & Maitland Chambers Undergraduate (Inter-Collegiate) Cuppers Mooting Competition (“Cuppers”), was held on 19th February 2013.
Leading Copyright Historian Appointed as Astor Lecturer for Trinity 2013.
The Oxford Intellectual Property Research Centre and the Faculty of English will host Professor Mark Rose (University of California, Santa Barbara) as the Astor Lecturer in Trinity 2013. Professor Rose has had extensive involvement in copyright litigation over thirty years and is one of the world’s leading historians of copyright. He is currently working on a book for Harvard University Press that focuses on six copyright cases spread over 250 years.

European Copyright Society Opinion on the Reference to the Court of Justice in Svensson
Professor Dinwoodie is a member of the European Copyright Society which recently published an Opinion on The Reference to the CJEU in Case C-466/12 Svensson (15 February 2013). The case, which was referred to the Court by the Swedish Court of Appeal, raises the important question whether setting a hyperlink to a copyright protected work amounts to ‘communication to the public’ within the meaning of the Information Society Directive.

Ronald Dworkin, 1931-2013
We record with sorrow the death of our colleague, Ronald Dworkin, in London on 14 February 2013. Professor Dworkin was 81 years old, and is survived by his wife Irene Brendel Dworkin, his children Anthony and Jennifer Dworkin, and two grandchildren.

Oxford Pro Bono Submissions on the Reform of India's Sexual Violence Laws
On the invitation of the Justice Verma Committee investigating the reform of India's sexual violence laws, Professor Sandra Fredman, with the assistance of members of Oxford Pro Bono Publico, has made submissions urging law reform on five central issues: a) the framing of the issue in human rights terms; b) the removal of the exception for marital rape; c) the definition of rape; d) discrimination under Article 15 of the Indian Constitution; e) services to support victims of rape.
The Justice Verma Committee was established on 21 December 2012 following the brutal gang rape of an Indian woman the previous week.
