On 3 February 2011, the Centre for Criminology held a book launch for Mary Bosworth and Carolyn Hoyle (Eds.) (2011) What is Criminology? (OUP), in the Old Library at All Souls College.

The book critically assesses the state, future and purpose of criminology in 36 chapters written by leading international criminologists, including four members of the law faculty at Oxford (Prof. Andrew Ashworth, Prof. Lucia Zedner and Prof. Ian Loader).

This is the first occasion where criminologists have come together to debate the nature of the discipline and the book is already receiving considerable attention from within the field.

Guest speakers Dr Richard Jones (University of Edinburgh) and Prof. Niki Lacey (All Souls College) presented the book to a packed audience of students, academics and criminal justice professionals. The Centre was particularly happy to see so many contributors to the book in the audience.

At a reception hosted after the seminar, members of the audience had the opportunity to mingle with the editors and contributors of the book.
