Welcome to Obligations V: Rights and Private Law

Hosted by the Law Faculty at the University of Oxford and Melbourne Law School.

Registration for the conference has now closed.

Obligations V is the fifth in a series of biennial conferences on the law of obligations. Since its inception in 2002, the Obligations conference series has become a leading forum for discussions of private law in the common law world. The conferences bring together scholars, judges and practitioners to discuss current issues in contract law, tort law, equity and unjust enrichment.

The first two Obligations conferences were held at the University of Melbourne in 2002 (The Law of Obligations: Connections and Boundaries) and 2004 (Principle and Policy in Private Law), the third at the University of Queensland in 2006 (Justifying Remedies in Private Law) and the fourth at the National University of Singapore in 2008 (The Goals of Private Law).

Obligations V will take place in Oxford at St Anne’s College from 14 July 2010 – 16 July 2010.  The theme of the conference is “Rights and Private Law”, and the programme features presentations by many leading private law scholars from across the common law world addressing issues in private law theory, tort law, contract law, unjust enrichment, equity and trusts, remedies and property. Obligations V has been accredited with 16.5 CPD hours.

St Anne's College is situated close to the centre of the beautiful university city of Oxford.  All the academic sessions of the conference will take place in St Anne's, and accommodation for delegates is available in the College.  The conference social programme includes a drinks reception in the medieval Divinity School and a formal dinner in the seventeenth-century Hall of Exeter College

Registration for the conference has now opened.  Because of the physical constraints of the conference venue, the number of registrations we can accept is strictly limited, and we would strongly encourage those who wish to attend to register as soon as possible. To register, please follow the Registration link.

We look forward to welcoming delegates to Oxford.
