The Brilliant Club aims to increase the number of pupils from under-represented backgrounds achieving places at highly selective UK universities. To do this, the charity uses the passion and knowledge of PhD students who tutor high-achieving pupils who attend a non-selective state school. Oxford University PhD students have joined the programme, and a number of Brilliant Club pupils go onto achieve Oxbridge places.
The programme begins with a visit to a leading university, which includes a campus tour and guidance sessions. Students then complete five tutorials in their school, which leads to the completion of a university style piece of work. Pupils who pass this final assignment then attend their graduation from the programme at a top university.
