Niki Giannakou, Dean’s Scholar 

Programme: Magister Juris 

This scholarship is indispensable in enabling me to pursue my postgraduate studies at Oxford. Beyond its financial impact, being a Dean’s Scholar has significantly boosted my confidence and renewed my motivation as both a student and a young scholar. It reassured me that my academic trajectory to date, as well as my goals and aspirations, truly matter and are worthy of support. 

From an early stage in my studies, I developed a strong interest in public international law and in its role in maintaining international peace and security and protecting human rights. I decided to pursue an academic career in this field to contribute through rigorous scholarly research and to transmit this knowledge to future generations through teaching. In furtherance of these objectives, I am currently applying to PhD programmes to undertake research at the intersection of gender equality and international law. My aim is to produce impactful academic work that advances legal scholarship while encouraging concrete action to support the rights of women and girls worldwide. 

I would like to express my sincere and profound gratitude to the donors who made my dream of studying at Oxford a reality. You have motivated me to pursue my plans with renewed determination and, I hope, to make you proud through my development as an academic.
