Care in the Courtroom: SSVS court study
Court report

About the project

Researchers at Oxford are conducting research on the introduction of trauma-informed specialist sexual offence courts in the UK, including SSVS courts at Leeds, Newcastle and Snaresbrook. As part of the research, we're asking survivors to share their experiences of giving evidence at SSVS courts, so we can highlight good and bad practice and help drive further reforms to court processes. Please see Care in the Courtroom and Victim and Survivor Participation for more information.

About the Reference Group

We're adopting a trauma-informed approach to involving and interviewing survivors as part of the study. Before we speak to survivors, we want to ensure that we get our approach right. We are hoping that survivors with experience of the court process will review our interview materials and make suggestions on our interview strategy could be improved. We're looking for up to six survivors to help us with this.

About the Commitment

Survivors' involvement should take no more than 6 hours and would ideally take place over one week. Everything can be done online/remotely.

It involves:

  • Attending a 30 mins online meeting with the researchers to explain the research, interview strategy and introduce you to the materials we would like you to review;
  • Reading the pre-interview protocol (which outlines our approach to conducting the interviews), the pre-interview online survey and the schedule of interview questions;
  • Providing feedback on the materials, either via email, a Teams meeting or through track changes on the document, depending on your preference.

Survivors will receive a one-off payment to recognise their input and expertise.
