Criminology DPhil Discussion Group

Discussion Group

The Criminology DPhil Discussion group is a space for doctoral students to discuss criminological topics,  get information on DPhil milestones (Transfer and Confirmation of Status, final viva) and ethical questions, present to and discuss their research with their peers, and get insights into issues regarding career development.

In the past academic year, the discussion group met fortnightly and took the form of a brief presentation by a speaker, followed by a Q+A session. Topics included CUREC, Transfer of Status, Confirmation of Status, shut-up-and-work-sessions, reviewing articles as peer reviewer, academic career stages after the DPhil, publishing articles, and presentations and discussions of DPhil students’ work.

This academic year (2022-23), the DPhil discussion group will adopt a more informal format. Every fortnight during term time (first event 28th of October) we will meet in a pub to discuss a topic that members previously agreed on. Those informal pub discussions will be supplemented by more formal presentations on DPhil milestones with speakers and Q+A sessions.

If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the group convenor Laura Haas: laura.haas@crim.ox.ac.uk
