Call for Paper Presentations:

The University of Oxford’s Feminist Jurisprudence Discussion Group (FJDG) is thrilled to invite submissions for its fourth interdisciplinary Annual Workshop, to be held on the 7th of June 2024.

Theme: Our theme this year revolves around the multifaceted issue of gender-based violence, encompassing various dimensions and contexts. We aim to explore gender-based violence in its broader meaning- extending beyond conventional boundaries-and in its intersections with other forms of oppression.

Topics of interest that the abstracts can include, but are not limited to:

  • Locations of violence: private, public, institutional, digital.
  • Institutions for redressal of violence: domestic, regional, international, non-state
  • Types of violence: physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, economic
  • Scale of violence: structural or individual
  • Vicarious or second-order gender-based violence
  • Interactions of gendered violence with other systems of oppression

Structure: The workshop will consist of selected presentations by graduate students. Presenters are encouraged to submit abstracts for 10 to 15-minute presentations. We welcome work in progress or entirely new ideas for discussion, and encourage submissions from all disciplines. Each session will provide ample opportunities for meaningful dialogue, idea exchanges, and potential collaborations.

Venue: TBD, University of Oxford

Submission Guidelines: Abstracts of 250-300 words should be submitted via the following link by Monday, 22nd  of April 2024.

Important Dates:

  • Submission Deadline: 22nd April 2024
  • Notification of Acceptance: 10th May 2024
  • Workshop Date: 7th June 2024

Keynote Speaker: We are excited to announce Professor Rangita de Silva de Alwis a distinguished expert in international women’s rights and a member-elect to the UN CEDAW Treaty Body Expert Committee, as our keynote speaker. Her extensive work with the CEDAW, UN Women and other UN agencies exemplifies her commitment to advancing gender justice. We eagerly anticipate her insights into the intersection of gender-based violence and international human rights law.
