The presentation aims to provide a preliminary assessment of the rules on formation of contract laid down in the Principles of Latin American Contract Law, in particular in the context of the main international instruments of contract law, such as the PICC, the PECL and the DCFR. Taking into account that Latin American jurisdictions have been traditionally included in the Romanistic legal family, that is, those legal systems that have adopted the French Civil Code as a main source of inspiration, special attention will be also given to the recent proposal by the French Ministry of Justice for the reform of the law of contract and obligations.
