Camilla Pickles is starting a postdoctoral research project on ‘Obstetric Violence and the Law’. She is looking for a research assistant to help search for Italian legal texts (legislation, bills, case law e.c.t.) and commentary on obstetric violence and to translate the texts from Italian into English.

Duration and hours

The work is to start immediately. Initially, the assistant will be expected work for no more than 8 weeks at a maximum of 50 hours in total. However, the assistant is not expected to work more than 8 hours a week.

Fluent in Spanish and English.

A general understanding of the field of law is essential.

A grasp of the legal systems in Argentina, Venezuela and/or Mexico will be beneficial.

A reasonable understanding of the fields of medical law, human rights, criminal law and law of delict/tort law.

This post requires excellent writing and research skills, and access to online search tools and a law library.

Good admin and IT skills are essential.

The work can be done in any place where you have access to a good library, but you must be able to travel to Oxford for occasional meetings.


This post is open to current graduate research students in the Law Faculty and the hours are in line with the restrictions on working hours for students.

Rate of Pay

This will be paid at the standard research assistant rate of £14.56/hour plus holiday pay of £1.76 = total of £16.32/hour.
