Professor Alberto Febbrajofrom the University of Macerata, Italy, will deliver this lecture on Max Weber's multilevel approach to socio-legal studies, as exemplified by the innovative concept of law developed in Economy and Society, considered to be the greatest sociological treatise of the twentieth century.

Professor Febbrajo will argue that, while a Weberian vision of society may be functionalistic and system oriented, Weber avoids the most evident limits of these approaches, exemplified by the ambiguous concepts of legitimation and legal culture.
