About the Oxford Law Summer School

The Oxford Introduction to Law in the UK is the official Law Summer programme offered directly by the Faculty of Law, University of Oxford. Participants will be taught by an incredible team of internationally recognised legal experts and gain a taste of the Oxford experience and what it might be like to study at an English University and practice law in the UK. The course includes more than 50 contact hours, made up of:

  1. lectures, taught with the whole programme group;
  2. seminars, taught in cohorts of 12; and
  3. tutorials, taught in groups of 4.

You will have the opportunity to engage with exciting concepts and practical problems, assisted and spurred on by the tutors who teach Oxford students. The core teaching is in 8 modules, giving a taste of the traditional bedrock of the law as well as some emerging areas and specialist topics. For 8 days of the course you delve into a new area of law each day, building a picture of legal reasoning and how the legal system is built.

In addition to the outstanding core teaching, there are two further benefits. First, a full package of enrichment activities, ranging from understanding the law in context, through to cutting-edge sessions on the research happening at the University of Oxford now, and from engaging with careers opportunities to distinguished leaders in the legal world. Second, you also have the opportunity to write an essay within the programme, and receive it back with feedback to help your writing and argumentation improve even further, and the chance to research and make submissions in a moot, a legal debate.

The programme is currently scheduled to be held between 12-23 July, 2021. It will take place online. Part of the afternoon will be recorded, to permit some timezones ahead of British Summer Time to cover that material the next morning.
