Shaheed Fatima QC is a leading barrister at Blackstone Chambers, London and the lead author of a recent important report on the adequacy and effectiveness of the international law framework for protecting children in armed conflict. The report was prepared for an inquiry that has been established by Save the Children and TheirWorld. The inquiry is chaired by former Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The report investigates six key areas identified by the Special Rapporteur on Children and Armed Conflict where grave violations of the rights of children may occur: the killing and ill-treatment of children, the recruitment and use of children in conflict, sexual violence, child abduction, attacks on hospitals and schools and denial of humanitarian access and assistance. Ms Fatima will present the key findings and recommendations of the report.
