Frank Field has been a Labour MP since 1979. He was chairman of the Social Security Select Committee for 10 years before being appointed Minister of Welfare Reform by Tony Blair. He is known for his independence of mind and was openly critical of Gordon Brown’s leadership.
Frank Field is one of the most innovative thinkers on social welfare reform. David Cameron appointed him as ‘Poverty Czar’ after the 2010 election. Frank Field has subsequently produced a major report on child poverty and made wide-ranging proposals for welfare reform.
