Kate      Allen      has      headed      Amnesty
International  in  the  United  Kingdom  since
2000.   AIUK   has   a   quarter   of   a   million
supporters     and     offices     in     London,
Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast.
She  established  the  Human  Rights  Action
Centre  in  Shoreditch  and  was  previously
Deputy   Chief   Executive   of   the   Refugee
Council where, among other responsibilities,
she organised British emergency evacuation
programmes  from  Bosnia  and  Kosovo.  She
also chaired the Asylum Rights Campaign, a
coalition  of  100  refugee  agencies,  lawyers
and  community  organisations,  during  the
passage    of    major    new    asylum    and
immigration legislation.
