Teaching Programme for Graduate Teachers - 18 & 19 June
Unit 1: Introduction to teaching in the Law Faculty
Wed 18 June 1 - 5 pm (lunch included)
In the Stage 1 programme, graduate teachers will be introduced to: the organisation of undergraduate teaching in Law at Oxford the roles and responsibilities of a tutor in the Law Faculty features of tutorial teaching pastoral care managing your teaching.
This seminar will contain the following elements Introduction to teaching and tutorials at Oxford Hints on how to prepare for tutorial teaching Outline of the tutorial method and alternative teaching arrangements Pastoral and other issues
This Unit is compulsory for GTAs and open to any research students who wish to teach. It is compulsory for those who wish to be on the Teaching Register. Note: Unit 2 of Stage 2 is also compulsory for GTAs and those who wish to be on the Teaching Register.
Unit 2: Introduction to educational theory in relation to teaching law
Thurs 19 June, 9am - 2pm, lunch included.
The aim of this unit is to introduce graduate teachers to: educational theory in relation to conceptions of learning and teaching in law issues in student assessment and the marking of set work issues in planning and conducting tutorials and to consolidate discussion from Unit 1.
It will contain the following elements: Introduction to SOLO taxonomy and essay-marking exercise Introduction to student conceptions of learning: deep, surface and strategic Discussion of the utility of alterative teaching methods to the tutorial model
This Unit is compulsory for GTAs and open to any research students who wish to teach. It is compulsory for those who wish to be on the Teaching Register.
