Faculty Funding for New Taught Students

Once you have been offered a place on one of the Faculty's graduate programmes, you will automatically be considered for all Faculty awards for which you are eligible.

Some scholarships, including the Non-Full Funding Bursaries awarded on the basis of financial need and those having financial need as part of the criteria, will require you to complete a separate form (the information about the application procedure for the Non-Full Funding Bursaries will also be included in your offer letter).

Take a look at our Graduate Scholars and find out more about their experiences.

Need-based funding administered by the Faculty

(Bursaries)

Each year, the Faculty distributes a number of bursaries/Financial Aid Awards to the incoming Taught Students. The value of the awards varies depending on the course of studies:

The guidance on how to apply for the bursaries will be included in your offer letter.

Merit-based and mixed criteria awards administered by the Faculty

(Scholarships)

The Faculty also offers a number of awards distributed based on academic merit, or mixed criteria combining academic merit and financial need. These include:

  • Faculty Scholarships (merit-based): faculty awards distributed on the basis of academic merit. The value and number of awards depend on the course.
  • Joint Faculty/College Awards (mostly merit-based): these are partnership awards where the Law Faculty and a specific Oxford college combine funding to offer a more substantial scholarship. In most cases, these awards are merit-based.
  • Sponsored Scholarships (mostly mixed criteria): these awards are funded by foundations, and individual donors. They often reflect a donor's interest in a particular field of law or a desire to support students from specific regions.
  • Chambers Scholarships (mixed criteria): generously funded by leading barristers' Chambers, these prestigious scholarships are typically for BCL candidates who intend to practise at the Bar of England and Wales.

All eligible candidates will be automatically considered for the merit-based scholarships, but if you wish to be considered for mixed-criteria awards as well, please make sure to complete the means assessment form

(Scholarships)

There are dozens of scholarships, some of which may have additional eligibility criteria, such as country of origin (citizenship or domicile).

Once you have been offered a place on one of the Faculty’s Graduate Taught programmes, you will be automatically considered for scholarships for which you are found eligible.

There are some awards that do require the candidates to apply separately; therefore, please use the Fees, funding and scholarship search to ensure you do not miss the funding opportunities you may be eligible for.
