Raffael is a PhD in Law candidate at the University of Cambridge (Sidney Sussex College), where he is working under the supervision of Professor Nigel Simmonds. At "The Other Place", he is a Graduate Workshop supervisor in Jurisprudence and a Managing Editor of the Cambridge International Law Journal. Raffael is also the convenor of the Talking Animals, Law, and Philosophy talk series.

His thesis aims to shed light on the intellectual and philosophical foundations of human and animal rights. In the Hilary and Trinity terms 2017, Raffael is a visiting researcher at the Faculty of Law in Oxford, where he is supervised by Professor Pavlos Eleftheriadis.

Raffael holds a Bachelor of Law and a Master of Law degree from the University of Fribourg, an MA in Philosophy from University College London, and an LLM from Yale Law School. He has worked as a research assistant at the University of Fribourg, the University of Zurich, and Yale Law School, and has been an associate at the Swiss Centre of Expertise in Human Rights.
