Toby is a DPhil student at the Centre for Socio Legal Studies. He is using economic and organisational sociology to understand the governance of artificial intelligence research and development. He is interested in the institutional environment in which advances in AI capabilities will be developed.
He has a BA in Law from the University of Cambridge, and an MSc in Evidence-based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation from the University of Oxford. Prior to coming to Oxford he worked as a judicial assistant in the Court of Appeal for England and Wales, and worked as a research volunteer at UCL's Constitution Unit, a political science think tank.
