Last night's documentary broadcast in Australia on SBS, 'Dateline: What's Really Happening on Manus Island,' reveals a troubling account of life inside Manus Island immigration detention centre as well the difficulties of obtaining research access to it. Building on an earlier documentary aired a few weeks ago on the ABC network entitled No Advantage: Inside Australia’s Offshore Processing Centres, also reported here at Border Criminologies,  SBS reporter Mark Davis offers a bleak picture of Australia's treatment of irregular migrants and an ongoing refusal to be transparent about the policies and practices of border control in the region.

And don't miss the interesting and engaging analysis of the earlier ABC network program by Sharon Pickering, Professor of Criminology at Monash University, Australia, featured on The Conversation website.
