Explaining Immigration Detention in Greece

This project sets out plans to create a series of short, accessible videos about immigration detention in Greece, to inform public understanding and debate, at a time when the numbers confined are growing and conditions of their detention are worsening. It draws on a decade worth of academic research in Greece and develops new partnerships with legal practitioners offering support and advice to the most vulnerable of those in the detention system. The videos will illuminate the growing intersections between practices of immigration detention and asylum reception, which have been previously legally distinct.

  1. Basic facts about immigration detention in Greece
  2. Prisons on a prison island: Life on the island of Lesvos
  3. Borders within borders: working and researching inside immigration detention centres
  4. The continuum of violence inside immigration detention
  5. Know your rights (a video about what people at risk of detention, while in detention and post-release can do to safeguard their rights)

The videos will be uploaded here soon.
