Rebecca Powell

Biography

Rebecca Powell is the Managing-Director at the Border Crossing Observatory. She also works as a researcher on a number of the Observatory’s projects, including the Australian Deportation Project, Deaths at the Global Frontier and the Fluid Security in the Asia-Pacific project. Before joining the Border Crossing Observatory, Rebecca worked in the field of human trafficking prevention from a law enforcement and criminal justice perspective for international organisations including the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) at headquarters in Vienna, the East Asia-Pacific regional office and Lao PDR country office and with the Asia Regional Trafficking in Persons Project (ARTIP). She has research experience from working on numerous UNODC research consultancies, and for high profile researchers in the field on issues associated with human trafficking, migrant smuggling and irregular migration in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
