The Children's and Family Law Discussion Group ('CFLDG') hosts a variety of guests speakers, from within the Faculty of Law, elsewhere in the University, and beyond, to encourage lively inter-disciplinary discussion on a number of topical issues regarding the legal regulation of children, their parents, and the family more generally.
Each session consists of a presentation (from 30 to 45 minutes, as agreed with the speaker), followed by enthusiastic debate over lunch. Speakers to date have presented on matters as diverse as whether we can justify legal regulation of the family at all, the fit between tax policy and the aims of maintenance (spousal support / alimony), and children’s consent to and refusal of medical treatment. Discussion is aimed at Faculty members and graduate students from inside and outside the University, but we also welcome undergraduate students with an interest in the area.
We meet an average of twice per term. A sandwich lunch, tea, and coffee is provided. RSVP is required, purely for catering purposes. We look forward to seeing you there!
