Abstract
Tongue in cheek title -women’s fashion magazines have regularly described an item of clothing as versatile and used a model to show you the many ways that you can adapt an outfit to suit the occasion or your waistline.
The paper will explore the versatility of literature (fictional and auto-fictional or self-writing, per Marina Warner) as a tool for teaching law. As an African lawyer, I like to think of literature as providing insights into living law. I will explore literature as an aid to theoretical framing. Using three texts, I will show how literature can be used as a tool for case analysis; as an aid for textual interpretation and, finally, literature as comparative method.
