Talking Research: Engaging with the Media

This workshop guides participants through the key steps in gaining media attention for their research. It covers how to get media exposure, what happens when journalists get in touch, how to prepare for and engage with media interviews, and the practical realities of working with the press. It tackles the concerns academics raise most often - from managing politically sensitive topics to dealing with mistakes or misquoting. By the end of the session, participants will develop a media pitch based on their own expertise or research.

Dr Joelle Grogan

Dr Joelle Grogan is a legal academic and presenter of The Law Show on BBC Radio 4. She brings over a decade of media experience doing interviews and providing commentary for national and international media including the BBC, CNN, Deutsche Welle, The Times and Le Monde. As former Head of Research and the King's College London think tank, UK in a Changing Europe, she worked with academics across the social sciences to help them share their research through media and government engagement.
