Transformational donation from A B Charitable Trust supports new Associate Professorship at Bonavero Institute of Human Rights

The Bonavero Institute has been gifted £3.7 million by the A B Charitable Trust to appoint a new Associate Professor in the field of business and human rights or the environment and human rights.

This donation supplements the original endowment provided by the A B Charitable Trust and will allow the Bonavero Institute to expand its permanent academic staff to four members, strengthening its existing global reputation in human rights research.

Professor Rachel Murray, Director of the Bonavero Institute, said: "We are delighted to receive this gift, which will enable us to flourish as an Institute in the longer term by increasing our pool of researchers, building on our global reputation for work in the field of human rights obligations of private actors. We are extremely grateful to the A B Charitable Trust for its continued and generous support of our work."

Professor John Armour, Dean of Oxford's Faculty of Law, added: "This gift will be transformational for the Bonavero Institute, for work on human rights in Oxford and beyond, and through these for impact in the world in support of human rights. The donation reaffirms the benefits of our longstanding relationship with the A B Charitable Trust, and we are enormously grateful for the Trust's continued commitment to helping us realise our ambitions."

The Bonavero Institute, a research centre within the Faculty of Law, is based at Mansfield College, Oxford. Established in 2015, it is named after the Bonavero family. Core staff costs are covered by an endowment in perpetuity from the A B Charitable Trust, which Yves and Anne Bonavero founded in 1990 to promote human dignity and defend human rights.
