Filial Violence Project

A programme of work investigating violence by children against their parents across the life course

Filial violence refers to violence from children towards parents across the life course, from children and adolescents to adult children being violent towards parents of all ages, including parental elder abuse, and fatal violence or parricide.

The Filial Violence Project draws together previous and current research on adolescent to parent violence, parricide, and adult perpetrated violence towards parents. It is led by Rachel Condry, Professor of Criminology, and Caroline Miles, Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester. Professor Condry co-directs the International Network Addressing Filial Violence, with Associate Professor Kate Fitz-Gibbon at Monash University.
