Activities of the Treaties, Brexit and the Constitution Project

On the 23rd of March with the generous support of the House of Commons, the Law Faculty’s Programme for the Foundations of Law and Constitutional Government and Jesus College, we convened a conference. The conference brought together lawyers and practitioners from the Houses of Parliament and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, academics and judges, and proposed practicable solutions to the problems presented by the disaggregation of Britain’s treaty obligations.

In November 2018, together with Jill Barrett, we gave oral evidence and submitted written evidence to the House of Lords Constitution Committee.

On the 13th of December, we gave a House of Commons Library Talk, which draws upon a draft article on Treaties, Brexit and the Constitution.
The House of Lords Constitution Committee published its Report on Parliamentary Scrutiny of Treaties on the 30th of April 2019. The Report recommended that Parliament should consider establishing a committee to scrutinise treaties.
