Transnationalism from above and below: Migration management and how migrants manage (MIGMA)

May-Len Skilbrei, Professor and Head at the Department of Criminology and Sociology of Law, University of Oslo

This project bridges legal, criminological, geographical, anthropological and sociological perspectives on the relationship between what European states do to curb and steer migration, and what migrants do to ensure their own mobility and future. MIGMA is funded by the Research Council of Norway and will come to its conclusion by the end of 2020. MIGMA specifically examines European attempts to return undesired migrants, enacting a project of exclusion and excision in the pursuit of governance. Output includes a PhD in law on the EU-Turkey deal on migration and a series of articles from postdoc and senior scholars.
