New study examines dementia policy across the United States

Centre for Socio-Legal Studies researcher Dr Matthew Nesvet and colleagues have published a new study providing the first systematic analysis of state dementia plans across the United States.

The research identifies significant gaps in existing dementia policies. A majority of state plans do not address reducing dementia risk factors or improving behavioural health for people living with dementia, while only slightly more than half provide practical guidance on improving quality of care or home and community-based support.

The study highlights opportunities for state-level dementia plans to translate policy priorities more effectively into concrete measures for prevention, care and support.
