Case Study - Oxford hosts GSK leaders for advanced AI and compliance programme
Fourteen senior leaders from the multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company GSK came to Oxford for an intensive bespoke programme exploring how artificial intelligence is reshaping legal practice, compliance, and corporate governance.
Held on 2 and 3 June 2026 at Oxford’s Jesus College, the bespoke Advanced Programme on AI and Compliance brought together members of GSK’s global Legal and Compliance leadership team with experts from across the University of Oxford.
The programme was co-directed by the Faculty of Law’s Professor Rebecca Williams, Professor of Public Law and Criminal Law, and Professor Ignacio Cofone, Professor of Law and Regulation of AI. It combined research-led teaching with interactive seminars, small-group discussions, and opportunities for participants to consider how emerging technologies could be applied responsibly within GSK’s global operations.
Across the two days, participants examined the use of AI in the legal sector, its wider societal implications, regulatory requirements for its deployment, implications for in-house legal teams, and the governance of data flows and risks in generative AI systems. Contributors included Oxford-based academics and practitioners from the fields of law, computer science, management, and assurance.
