Junior Academic Visitors

Applications for Junior Academic Visitors

The Commercial Law Centre offers at least one junior academic visitorship per term for doctoral students working in the field of commercial law.  The procedure for applications is set out below.

Junior Academic Visitors are currently undertaking a PhD in a commercial law subject at an institution other than the University of Oxford, and come to the Centre to work on their thesis for one term. They retain their home institution supervisor, who is expected to provide a statement of support for the visit. Junior Academic Visitors typically aim to carry out a comparative aspect of their project during their visit to the Centre.

1. Applications are to be made by the following dates:
16 June 2025 for Hilary term 2026
1 December 2025 for Trinity term 2026
9 March 2026 for Michaelmas term 2026
15 June 2026 for Hilary term 2027

2. Applications are to be made by email to Sophie Gibson (clc@hmc.ox.ac.uk).  They must include an up-to-date curriculum vitae, a description of the applicant's doctoral research, a proposal for the work to be carried out in Oxford, and the name of an academic referee, preferably the applicant's supervisor.

3. Applicants will be considered by the Commercial Law Centre in a gathered field.  There is a fee charged by the Commercial Law Centre for junior academic visitorships, to cover library, IT and administration costs.  In addition, meals taken in college must be paid for.

4. A junior academic visitor must have a valid visa.

5. Junior academic visitors should be aware that their visit to the College will be limited to the one term offered. We are unable to extend visits into a second term or to arrange other forms of affiliation with College on the basis that the visitor has secured another link with Oxford, for example by becoming a recognised student pursuant to the University’s recognised student scheme. That scheme offers no college affiliation.
