The Swiss Re Programme for Civil Justice Systems

Taking place at the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies and run by Professor Christopher Hodges and Dr Sonia Macleod. Programme Affiliates include: Prof Dr Stefaan Voet, Dr Magdalena Tulibacka,  Dr Herbert Woopen, Diana Wallis, Dr Victoria McCloud, Adam Sampson

The programme aims to evaluate all options for dispute resolution, regulation and enforcement in a European state, and to propose new frameworks and solutions. The outputs of the programme have been widely relied on by governments, regulators, ombudsmen, and consumer and business organizations across the world.

The main workstreams are described below:

  • Class Actions/Collective Redress
  • Civil Justice Systems and Access to Justice
  • Funding and Costs
  • Substantive law on Liability, Compensation, Consumer Protection and Trading
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution
  • Pharmaceutical Safety: A Study in Public and Private Regulation
