Singham and Alden will speak about their new book, Trade, Competition and Domestic Regulatory Policy. The lecture will focus on how trade liberalisation, and competition policy have separately evolved over time and how the problem of anti-competitive market distortions can be solved using elements of both disciplines. The book also includes an analysis of different competition systems around the world and shows how these have diverged, converged and now appear to be diverging again from consumer welfare enhancement as the goal of competition policy.
