MLF students take initiative and form the Oxford Sustainable Finance Students’ Society

The Society aims to be an interdisciplinary initiative to serve as a platform where students can acquire capacities and knowledge about sustainable finance and form the connections to develop their careers in sustainable finance.

Oxford Sustainable Finance Students’ Society

Aware of the urgent need to achieve a fair and orderly transition to a Net Zero economy, MLF students Gabriel Acuña and Stepanyda Badovska decided to form the Oxford Sustainable Finance Students’ Society, which was launched at the beginning of February. The Society is formed by students from various programs of the University. The MLF is represented by Gabriel, who serves as President, Stepanyda, who is Vice President, Lars Petersen (the Society’s Treasurer), Jennifer Ho (the Website and Content Coordinator), Stella Adu-Donkor (Event Manager), and Rolando Virardi and Daniel Goode, who are researchers. The MJur is also well represented, as Wojciech Marcinkowki serves as researcher. From the BCL, Nina Braude is the Chief Editor while Meenakshi Kesavankutty is a researcher. Additionally, the Society has members and associate members from the MSc Public Policy, the MSc in Financial Economics and the MSc Environmental Change and Management of the University and the DPhil in Sustainable Finance.

The Society aims to be an interdisciplinary initiative to serve as a platform where students can acquire capacities and knowledge and form the connections to develop their careers in sustainable finance. It is also designed as a place where students can expand their horizons through research and publish their ideas in the field.

The Society is grateful for the massive support from its Senior Member, Thom Wetzer, Director and founder of the new Oxford Sustainable Law Program, its Advisor, Dr Abrar Chaudhury, Research Fellow at Said Business School and its Senior Advisor, Dr Ben Caldecott, Director of the Oxford Sustainable Finance Program. the Society has formed an alliance with these programs to develop a complementary agenda in sustainable finance matters, materialized through research and the development of the students’ capabilities in the fields of law, finance, public policy and regulation.

The Society intends to be an enabling force among students, contributing to the transition through the intellectual seriousness and rigour that characterises our University. Among the workstreams of the Society is collaboration with alumni, so the team is keen to meet MLF alumni interested in establishing contact with the Society and participating in its activity.
