Biography

Sonam is a Departmental Lecturer at the Law Faculty, and a Tutor in Law at Corpus Christi. She teaches Administrative Law and Constitutional Law for the college, as well as Environmental Law for the Faculty.

Sonam’s main research interest is Environmental Law and she is especially interested in the interaction between common law doctrine and climate change problems. Sonam is currently completing her DPhil on this topic, which is generously supported by the University College London Faculty of Laws and the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Sonam has previously written on matters relating to environmental rights, climate framework laws, and climate change adjudication, including a case note on the Court of Appeal’s decision in R (Plan B Earth) and Ors v Secretary of State for Transport [2020] EWCA Civ 214 in the Journal of Environmental Law.

Prior to taking up the post of Departmental Lecturer, Sonam spent two years as an Associate Lecturer (Teaching) at the UCL Faculty of Laws. Before her career in academia, Sonam worked with a number of environmental NGOs, including Friends of the Earth and Greenpeace International. In 2019, Sonam set up the Climate Justice Fund, an international organisation supporting climate legal work in Global South jurisdictions. In earlier years, she was awarded a First Class degree in Law with European Legal Studies at King’s College London, and completed her LLM with Distinction at the University of Sydney.
