Restrictions on Applications to Certain Research Funding Schemes

July 2023

The Faculty of Law encourages applications for external funding for research and will endeavour to support all high-quality applications. Unfortunately the Faculty is not always able to sponsor applications to certain research funding schemes. This can be for a number of reasons, which are often unique to the grant. Below is a list of the research funding schemes for which we cannot support applications, or where we are currently only able to support applications under certain circumstances.

UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship

We are only able to support applications from academics who are already employed by Oxford on a permanent contract. Due to the salary contribution required by the Faculty.

ESRC New Investigator Grant

We will support applications from academics who are already employed by Oxford on a permanent contract.

Applicants who do not have a permanent post will require this grant to cover their salary. In this case, it will be difficult to justify requesting the salary of a full-time principal investigator as the dominant component of the grant. As this would preclude the employment of a project team, as required by the ESRC for a successful application.

We will support applicants who wish to request the salary of a part-time principal investigator of 0.4FTE (two days a week) or less. Before applying, we ask applicants to find an Oxford academic on a permanent contract to act as their mentor for the duration of the project.

AHRC Catalyst Award

We will support applications from academics who are already employed by Oxford on a permanent contract.

Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – Global Postdoctoral Fellowship

We will support applications for the MSCA European Postdoctoral Fellowship.

However, cannot support any applications for the MSCA Global Postdoctoral Fellowship, due to the administration and the financial risks associated with this scheme.
