CSLS and Brookes academics produce audio-visual guides for lay users in virtual court hearings

The work of Professor Linda Mulcahy and Anna Tsalapatanis from the Centre for Socio-legal Studies, and Dr Emma Rowden from Oxford Brookes University, has recently been attracting attention amongst the legal profession.  A feature in this week’s Law Society Gazette provides an account of the work they have been doing with Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunal service in trying to assist lay users of the justice system in video hearings.  Online hearings have become extremely common during the pandemic and their use is likely to continue once it is over.

Linda Mulcahy has also been taking part in an online course being run by Central and Eastern European Judges with a view to helping judges to adapt to video hearings.
