Law Faculty Research Excellence Framework (REF) outcome

Today the UK funding bodies have published the results of the UK’s most recent national research assessment exercise, the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021. Research from the Faculty of Law was submitted to Unit of Assessment 18 (Law).

55% of the Faculty’s submission was judged to be 4* (the highest score available, for research quality that is world-leading in terms of originality, significance, and rigour).

Research in the Faculty has had significant impact in many areas including employment law, immigration detention, human rights law, and business regulation. The Faculty is proud to have research submitted from 142 researchers (138.23 FTE) resulting in a large volume of 4* research activity in Law.

"The Faculty values the broad range of research activities conducted here, some of which will never be appropriately captured by assessment exercises. Our research has far-reaching, global impact that makes a real difference to society" said Mindy Chen-Wishart, Dean of the Faculty.
