Biography

Francesca Soliman is a lecturer in criminology at Edinburgh Napier University and associate director of the Scottish Centre for Crime & Justice Research (SCCJR). Francesca’s main research interest is the application of zemiology to the study of borders and border violence, and more in general zemiology’s continuous development as a radical approach dissecting states’ roles in constructing social problems. Francesca’s doctoral research examined the social and environmental harms caused by processes of borderisation, i.e. the performance and enforcement of international borders, with a particular focus on their impact on the border community of the island of Lampedusa, in Italy.
