ODA International Interdisciplinary Research Projects

Faculty EOI deadline: 27 September 2023

Funder deadline: 1 November 2023

The British Academy is inviting proposals from UK-based early career researchers working with international partners wishing to develop interdisciplinary projects involving both the humanities and the social sciences. The projects can focus on any interdisciplinary topic that involves both the humanities and the social sciences.

Scope

The aim of this call is to support international collaborations between early career researchers in the UK and early career researchers in Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam and/or Least Developed Countries on internationally focused ODA-eligible research projects of an interdisciplinary nature involving the humanities AND social sciences. There are no themes to this call other than the research must be ODA-eligible and interdisciplinary.

Eligibility

These awards are aimed at Principal Investigators who are UK-based early career researchers (usually defined as defined as 0-7 years post-PhD) who are yet to have the opportunity to lead and manage international interdisciplinary research projects. The Academy sees this as a career development opportunity and therefore would not expect to support applications that are led by PIs who already have had the experience of leading and managing such projects. The Academy will expect applicants to articulate why the award will have a demonstrable impact on their career trajectory.

The involvement of Co-Applicants based overseas is required. At least one Co-Applicant based outside of the UK must be an early career researcher based in Brazil, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Philippines, South Africa, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam and/or Least Developed Countries.

Applicants are required to justify the equity within their proposed partnerships. Any applications that are deemed to not support equitable partnerships will not be funded.

Duration and Value

Awards are for a period of 24 months, with a maximum award value of £300,000 on an 80 per cent Full Economic Costing (FEC) basis. The PI must commit between 0.2 and 1.0 FTE time to the Fellowship. Projects are expected to commence between March/April 2024.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online using the British Academy's Grant Management System (GMS), Flexi-Grant®. The deadline for submissions and is Wednesday 1 November 2023 (17:00 BST). Further details are available on the British Academy’s webpage for this opportunity.
