Graduate students needed for 'Opportunity Oxford' summer teaching
Deadline for applications: 4pm on Friday 12 June
Opportunity Oxford Teaching
The Law Faculty is looking to appoint a number of graduate students to assist Andrew Higgins, Access & Outreach Co-ordinator, and the Opportunity Oxford Co-Ordinator (who will be appointed later this month) to teach the inaugural Opportunity Oxford Law Programme from July to September 2020.
Opportunity Oxford is a University Scheme that provides high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds with some additional teaching over the summer holidays with the aim of giving them a "flying start" to their Oxford law degrees in Michaelmas Term. We are looking for graduate students with the ability to teach in the areas of Roman, Constitutional or Criminal Law. Experience of teaching in these subjects is desirable but not essential.
Duties of appointees will include giving tutorials, holding Q&A sessions with students, marking and giving feedback on online course exercises and on tutorial essays. For graduate students working in Roman Law duties will also extend to organising a moot.
The distance learning will run from 1st July - 12th August 2020 and students will be required to complete 2 weeks full time work but will have a 6 week period to complete it. The residential will run from 5th – 18th September 2020 and will be full time. The latter will be in person or virtual depending on government and university guidance.
Graduate students will need to be available for the whole period although no one will be required to work more than 8 hours a week, and for a maximum of 12 weeks in total. This will be paid at the standard Grade 6 rate of £15.37 per hour (based on point 1) plus holiday pay of £1.86 per hour worked (= total of £17.23/hour).
Any enquiries about the position can be emailed to Andrew Higgins (Andrew.higgins@law.ox.ac.uk). Please e-mail a short application to recruitment@law.ox.ac.uk setting out your relevant experience and any restrictions on your ability to work during the above period, as well as the names of at least one referee. Please include the reference ‘Opportunity Oxford’ in the subject line of your e-mail.
Deadline for applications: 4pm on Friday 12 June.
