Associate Professorship of Law in association with a Tutorial Fellowship in Law, Magdalen College

Magdalen College and the Faculty of Law invite applications from suitably qualified candidates for a Tutorial Fellowship and Associate Professorship of Law, to be appointed with effect from 1st October 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be both an Official (Tutorial) Fellow in Law at Magdalen, and a member of the Faculty of Law.

The successful candidate will be a member of both the College and Faculty communities. They will be part of a lively and intellectually stimulating research community which publishes at the highest international levels, and they will have access to the excellent research facilities which Oxford offers. The person appointed will join one of the largest and most distinguished groups of legal scholars in the world. The appointee will have a record of internationally recognised scholarship and research appropriate to their career stage, and will be able to provide a high standard of research-led teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including the supervision of research students.

The successful candidate will have a major research interest in Land Law, Jurisprudence, or Roman Private Law, and will be expected to teach for the College in that field. Preference may be given to a candidate who is able to teach for the College in two or more of the following subjects: Land Law, Jurisprudence, and a Roman Introduction to Private Law. Preference may also be given to a candidate who is able to teach for the Faculty in Legal History, Roman Private Law, or Private Law Theory.

Applicants should have received a doctoral degree or have done research work equivalent to that of a person holding a doctorate; have an outstanding record of original, important, and rigorous published research; have the ability to provide excellent undergraduate teaching (including in at least one of the College’s required subjects) and excellent postgraduate teaching and supervision, along with the personal qualities needed to encourage a high level of achievement in undergraduate and graduate students. The salary will be on a scale from £52,815 - £70,918 per annum, plus a College Housing Allowance of £17,388 p.a., Tutorial Allowance of £9,030 p.a., and other benefits. Associate Professors who are awarded the title of full Professor may receive from the University an additional salary payment of £3,078 per annum.

The Faculty of Law is an Athena Swan Bronze Award holder. Applications are particularly welcome from women and from black and minority ethnic candidates, who are under-represented in senior academic positions in Oxford.
