Blog Editor for Border Criminologies Blog and Website

Professor Mary Bosworth is looking for a Blog Editor to help with online work related to the Border Criminologies research programme.

The project aims are to assist the website manager, Andriani Fili, and Mary Bosworth in managing, commissioning and editing blogs to disseminate research on the intersections between border control and criminal justice.

Tasks for the Blog Editor will be varied and will include editing, uploading and commissioning blog content, managing social media communications, e.g. on Twitter and Instagram, and helping with website development.

 

Duration and hours

Working hours: a total of 225 hours across the duration of the project, to be agreed with the Supervisor.

Start date: 19 December 2022 at earliest.

Date by which the work must be completed: 31 July 2023.

 

Reporting

The Blog Editor will report to Andriani Fili.

 

Requirements

  • A good understanding of the field of border criminologies, migration, and refugee studies is essential.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to work with a variety of colleagues across disciplines and time zones is essential.
  • Experience of empirical research in a related field is desirable.
  • Experience of experience in public engagement work is desirable
  • Experience of using Drupal or other website content management systems is desirable.
  • Experience of social media is desirable.
  • Experience of video editing is desirable.
  • The work can be done in any place in the UK where you have access to a good library and internet. Meetings with the PI/team members will be held in Oxford and online.

 

Eligibility

This opportunity is open to current DPhil students in the University of Oxford studying migration or a criminal justice related topic (disciplinary field is open). The hours are in line with the restrictions on working hours for students in the Faculty of Law. 

It is expected that the work will be undertaken in the UK. 

 

Rate of Pay

The work will be paid at £16.49 per hour (which equates to University Grade 6, point 1), on the basis of completed and approved timesheets, which must be submitted to payroll@law.ox.ac.uk by the last Friday of each calendar month for payment on the last working day of the following month.

In addition, annual leave will be assumed to be taken in the month in which it was accrued.

This opportunity is funded by a Law Faculty Internet Engagement Fund grant.

Guidelines for Faculty members, line managers and students

Work must not commence without a letter of engagement or variable hours contract and a right to work check having been carried out by the Faculty Personnel Officer.

Graduate student engagement opportunities in the Faculty of Law usually fall into one of three categories: Research Assistant; Graduate Teaching Assistant; or Blog Editor

Full-time graduate students in the Faculty of Law may work up to 8 hours per week, or a common sense average across the year, regardless of the type of work.

Students may not work for their own supervisor without the approval of the Associate Dean for Graduate Students.
