Professor Sandra Fredman is looking for up to three Blog Editors/Podcast Team Members for the Oxford Human Rights Hub.
The Oxford Human Rights Hub (OxHRH) brings together academics, practitioners, and policy-makers from across the globe to advance the understanding and protection of human rights and equality. Through the vigorous exchange of ideas and resources, we strive to facilitate a better understanding of human rights principles, to develop new approaches to policy, and to influence the development of human rights law and practice.
Tasks will be as follows:
- Blog editors will be tasked with substantive and copy-editing blog submissions, uploading and (as coordinated with the Managing Editor) publishing blogs, and working with the OxHRH team on soliciting blogs and developing blog series. Blog editors may also be involved in disseminating blogs on social media.
- Podcast team members will host and record episodes of RightsUp and RightsUp Pops podcasts which concern important developments in human rights law. The podcast team may also be involved in planning podcast episodes and series, drafting interview questions and scripts, and administrative tasks such as correspondence with interviewees.
Duration and hours
Working hours: a total of up to 240 hours available to each Blog Editor/Podcast Team Member across the duration of the project, to be agreed with the project supervisor.
Start date: 2 October 2023
Date by which the work must be completed: work is completed on a rolling basis as blogs are published on a semi-daily basis. Expected end date of 5 August 2024.
The role is advertised within the terms of our Blog Editor scheme.
Reporting
The Blog Editors/Podcast Team Members will report to Professor Sandra Fredman.
Requirements
- A strong understanding of comparative equality, discrimination and human rights law is essential
- Strong editorial skills are essential
- Good communication skills are essential
- Strong research skills are essential
- Good admin and IT are essential
- Social media skills are desirable
The work can be done in any place where you have access to a good library and internet.
Eligibility
This opportunity is open to current graduate research students in the Law Faculty (or recent graduates of the Law Faculty), and the hours are in line with the restrictions on working hours for students within the Law Faculty. It is expected that the work will be undertaken in the UK.
Rate of Pay
The work will be paid at £17.03 per hour, which equates to University Grade 6, point 1, on the basis of completed and approved timesheets, which must be submitted to payroll@law.ox.ac.uk by the last Friday of each calendar month for payment on the last working day of the following month.
In addition, paid annual leave will be assumed to be taken in the month in which it was accrued.

This opportunity is funded by a research grant from the British Academy (BAR00062) and matched funding by the Law Faculty.

Guidelines for Faculty members, line managers and students Work must not commence without a letter of engagement or variable hours contract and a right to work check having been carried out by the Faculty Personnel Officer. Graduate student engagement opportunities in the Faculty of Law usually fall into one of three categories: Research Assistant; Graduate Teaching Assistant; or Blog Editor. Full-time graduate students in the Faculty of Law may work up to 8 hours per week, or a common sense average across the year, regardless of the type of work. Students may not work for their own supervisor without the approval of the Associate Dean for Graduate Students.
