Carlos J. Zelada
Carlos J. Zelada, DPhil Candidate and Dean’s Scholar
Name: Carlos J. Zelada
Programme: DPhil
Carlos is currently undertaking a DPhil in Law at the University of Oxford, generously supported by the Dean’s Scholars Fund. His research is focused on the analysis of sexual violence against men and non-cisgender women as portrayed in the judgments of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights.
My DPhil journey at Oxford has allowed me to deepen my research into finding solutions to the scourge of sexual violence against men and boys in a way that would not have been possible elsewhere in the world. In the last year alone, I have been able to engage with the world's leading experts on the subject and discuss my preliminary findings with relevant stakeholders interested in implementing policies to prevent and punish these crimes in their countries. I have presented my work in Bogota, Lima and Edinburgh and will soon be travelling to Melbourne to share my research. This has gone hand in hand with building a community of Latin American doctoral students at Oxford interested in human rights, of which I am very proud to be a part.
